Happy Fandom Friday! Each week, I highlight an aspect of the various fan communities that have sprung around movies, TV shows, books, games, or even memes, if the level of dedication is awesome enough.
Seeing as my talents are limited to writing, I always admire fans who can go the extra mile and sublimate their interest into art. (Like, say, The Vader Project.) But it takes a special breed of fan to put in the effort to recreate the set of a beloved TV show--here, the camp immortalized in M*A*S*H.
Redditor relocopter posted these photos, saying that his friend built this replica of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in his backyard. Working from old photographs of the original set, this person has included such details as trinkets like decorative paper butterflies; and he rigged up a working PA system that makes announcements every 10 minutes.
Most touching is that after relocopter posted this story, several Redditors got caught up quoting famous M*A*S*H lines back and forth. It's wonderful to see how evocative a project like this is--like with fanfiction and fan art, what starts as an individual endeavor becomes a shared experience.
Now just give me young Alan Alda, and we're set.
