If you watch 16 and Pregnant, then you undoubtedly remember
Christinna's episode. Most of it was a battle between her and her boyfriend Isiah's
family.
We watched Isiah's grandmother, Kathleen Green, demand a
paternity test at the dinner table and lash out on her young grandson's wife. Most of us were pissed. How could someone be that mean?
Now, Kathleen wants to tell her side of the story. Since the
show, she's received death threats over Twitter and has contemplated suing MTV over their "devious" editing.
Meanwhile, Christinna has been giving interviews claiming she
left Isiah and he wanted nothing to do with their daughter, Destiny. Kathleen says that's just not true.
Has a DNA test been taken yet? Are Isiah and Christinna
together right now? Was the show everything it seemed to be?
Here's what Isiah's much-talked-about grandmother had to say in my interview with her.
Does your opinion change? How do you feel about the show now? Comment below!
First things first -- Did you sign anything with MTV or
get paid to do the show?
The only thing that we signed was a right for them to film
us. They did not pay us. We did not make one penny off of this show. I have
checked that out with attorneys because they said they should have made me sign
a 20-page contract because all of the footage they did of me. It's like they're
making the show about me.
In particular, what did you dislike about my articles?
You have my grandson as a loser. That is not true. I donāt
know where to startā¦you guys calling me a wackjob? I mean, come on now. I am a
grandmother that loves her grandchildren and her children. That is all I am.
What is your issue with the way MTV edited the show?
As far as the show is concerned, as far as the way I acted
on the show -- that was fair. However, they were here three or four days a
week. And they showed nothing of this girl. They didn't show how mean and crazy
she is. She is a big liar. The fact is, she did sleep with somebody. And since
she has left here, a lot of people have come forward saying "Yeah, yeah,
yeah. This is true." When [Isiah] first found out that she slept with
somebody, he said, "OK, we're going to have a DNA test when Destiny is
born" and Christinna [wanted that] too. They said they were going to bring
it to me and they were going to slap me in the face with it. And then when her
mother came here, when she had the baby, they decided not to have the test.
They said, "Oh, we talked about it and we decided not to have the
test." After Destiny was born, Isiah got really attached to Destiny and he
said if [she] was not his, it would hurt him. But Isiah, in no way, has been a
loser to this child. He has always been there for this child. He gave up his
life for this child.
What has Christinna lied about?
She says somewhere she had to leave him and debated over
leaving him. That is not true. He told her to go. He was tired of arguing all
the time. She didn't want him to be around his family. She didn't want him to
have anything to do with his mother. She didn't want him to have anything to do
with anybody expect for her. She didn't even want him to play Playstation at
night in the house with just him and her.
For example, one night about one o'clock in the morning, he
was off work and sitting down playing Playstation. She was in the bed. She came
out of the room. She told him, "Can you come to bed?" He said,
"I'm coming. I'm playing this game." Ten minutes later, she comes
back into the living room, opens up the balcony door and throws the Playstation
out the window. This is the kind of woman that she is.
The show made it look like we haven't done anything for this
girl. Christinna said she dated Isiah for eight months. That is not true. She
met him in her senior year right before spring break. She left and went back to
New York. This is when she supposedly slept with somebody. She came back
from New York after spring break, on his birthday, and told him that she was
pregnant. They only knew each other for what, a month or two? It's been a year
now, but they didn't date for eight months.
Why do you think MTV edited out the part about Christinna
allegedly sleeping with someone else?
OK, this is it. At the end, when you hear me say, "I
don't want to air your dirty laundry on TV." That's why I said that. Right
after that, she says, "Yeah, but [there] was no penetration." They
edited that out. Let me tell you why I think they edited it out. After that
happened and Christinna left and went to New York, she threatened not to
complete the show. You know the talking part of the show [where] she has [to]
narrate? They had the footage, but they didn't have the talking part. She
threatened not to do that. She left and went to New York. MTV threatened to sue
her and Isiah for a million dollars. They're not being fair with this. They
threatened to sue her and Isiah and we
talked her into finishing the narrating part of the show. So basically, at that
point, they had to do what she wanted them to do. Because she was not going to
do it.
Then, do you think that editing was done to please her?
I think she threatened to not finish the show and the only
way she was going to finish the show was for them to make her look right.
That's how I feel. They wanted her to go to New York to do it. She didn't do it
like that. She did it over the phone. Isiah told us that.
What do you say about Isiah buying speakers and things he
didn't need?
Let me tell you about that. First of all, he bought
everything for this baby. Now let me tell you how tricky MTV is. If you notice
the scene where he's going out the door, he's got on a short-sleeved shirt, but
when he's handing the money to the guy, he's got on a long-sleeved shirt. That
was one of MTV's cameramen. He was giving him the change back because they gave
him money for gas. The speakers that he got -- he did not buy them. My
daughter's husband gave them to him. He did not have $300. He only made $240 a
week. I couldn't believe some of the stuff they did. I just couldn't believe
it.
Was anything else completely fabricated or set up by MTV?
OK, on the day that you see us sitting down where it was
just me, Isiah, my daughter, and we say, "What's wrong Isiah?" He
says, "I'm just frustrated." That was around the time when he and
Christinna had been fighting. She had him arrested. He was staying at his mom's
house. This is what they did. MTV told us to be there at 6:30. Then when we got
there, [the MTV crew] said, "Well, we wanted ya'll to be here first
because we wanted to let everybody know how things are going now, and we going
to have Christinna come at 7:00." However, Christinna came 15 minutes
later. They said, "We're going to need you to go get a DNA test. If she takes the test, we will pay for it." She's telling everybody that
the family wouldn't pay for the test. That is not true. MTV was going to pay
for the test.
They do owe me money because they had me go to the store
and get the DNA test. [MTV] said, "I'm going to need you to go get that
DNA test because, you know, I can't do it because that would be a conflict of
interest. But I will pay you back." They told us to get there early. This
is before we sat down to do all this talking. So I went and got the test. Then
they had me say, "Yeah, I'll just go get it." I already had the test
[at that point].
So MTV told you what to say?
They didn't have really a script. They would just tell us what
they needed us to say. They would say stuff like, "Talk about this"
or "Talk about that." When we were at the table and we were
mentioning the DNA test, Christinna told [MTV], "This is why I hate your ass.
You come here and the family is all messed up. We were just fine until you were
here." She said that to the camera lady and I know they filmed that. They
left that out.
Remember the grocery scene? They make it look like Isiah
and them didn't have 50 dollars. Give me a break. They were on food stamps. They
had 50 dollars.
I know they are making millions and millions of dollars
off this show. Everywhere I go, people know me. I went to Vegas last week. I
was in the store and somebody knew me. They made this show about me. It wasn't
16 and Kathleen. It's 16 and Pregnant. You know what I mean? If you were going
to make the show about me, you should have paid me.
Why did you talk around Christinna instead of directly
to her?
That was heavily edited. We were sitting at the table.
Katrina said, "Christinna, what do you want?" and they switch it over
to me. She answered the question. Let me tell you what she said. She said,
"Well, I just thought we should get married because that is the way I was
raised and I wanted my child to be in a proper home and to be raised in the way
I was raised." I said, "How could you say that when your mother has
five kids by five different daddies? Two of the kids, your mama donāt even
have." She has an 18-month-old baby son and a 7-year-old son that the
daddy has. "If ya'll were raised in such a proper home, that's can't be
true." That's what I said. And that's when Isiah stood up because he
didn't want me to say that on TV. That's why he jumped up and walked out the
door. I asked him, "Did you tell her what I said?" But I wasn't
talking through him. I was talking to her. MTV edited that scene a lot. There
was another daughter sitting at the table. We were all talking. They cut her
completely out.
Where was Christinna's mom at this point?
MTV tried to get her to sign a release. They went to New
York to talk to her. MTV got her hairs, nails and a facial done. Then the woman
wouldn't sign the release. This is how MTV got her though. She came here
because Christinna was having the baby. She was still at Christinna and Isiah's
house, so she drove here. She was at the hospital when she had the baby. You
can see her. She's the one in green. They blocked her out, but you could still
see her. She claimed she was going to sign the release at that time, so MTV did
all the filming. She didn't even sign the release. She didn't even have enough
money to get back to New York. And MTV didn't give it to her. They said they
would not give her one more cent.
You mentioned Christinna got Isiah arrested?
They were always arguing about money, his friends or whatever. She would say she was leaving every other day. One Saturday morning, she packed her car and told him she was leaving. She left and stayed gone for about four hours and came back. When she came in the house, he was there with his brother and his friend. They were playing PlayStation. She went to the table and got his phone and then she started kicking him, slapping him, scratching him and then she kicked him in the private area. At that point, he had had enough and he hit her. She called the cops and he was taken to jail. After he got out, she still begged him to come home but he stayed at his mom's house for about a month. Then he slowly went back to her. Again, we begged him not to.
Wow. So, has the paternity test been taken at this point?
No. She's not going to do that. She refuses. Isiah was real
willing to take one, but then he said he was scared. The Maury [Povich] Show
contacted me. They were even going to do the test and she refused. She does not
want the test done.
How did the whole pregnancy news come about?
Christinna had a diary. Her mother found the diary. She
found that Isiah and Christinna were having sex. She came to my daughter's
house and she told Katrina, "I'm going to have your son arrested for rape.
He raped my daughter." Katrina talked to both of the kids and they both
said it was consensual. "No, no, my daughter is an angel. She would never
do this. Never." All that kind of crap. Long story short, Christinna told
her mom, "Calm down. It was consensual."
Then, the shelter found [Christinna and her mom] a house.
Three or four days after Isiah's 18th birthday, Christinna was like
a month or two pregnant, the mother took them to get married. She didn't call
Katrina and say, "Hey, I'm about to take your son to get married."
She came over to borrow cleaning supplies, she came over when she needed money,
when she needed a ride, but when she took her son to get married, she did not
do that.
What happened after they got married? When did MTV come
into the picture?
She took them back to her house where she was living. She
packed her truck and left and went to New York. Two days later, the landlord
comes knocking on the door. The rent is due. The light company comes. The
lights were going to be cut off. These kids didn't know what to do. I took
Christinna around to find apartments. We found them a little raggedy trailer
because that's all they could afford, like $400 a month. Two weeks later, here
comes Christinna's mother and her [other] daughter moving in with them. So, you
know we were furious.
We told them, "This is not right. You want us to help
you, but then you come move in?" She left and went back to New York. Then
they found out the trailer had a lot of rodents -- it had rats and roaches and
whatever -- so Katrina told them, "Ya'll can move back in here." So
Isiah and Christinna moved back into Katrina's house. That is when she wrote a
letter to MTV. She wanted Isiah to get them a place. How was he supposed to do
this when this boy was 18 and had never had a job before in his life? He was
forced to get a job at a sandwich shop at the airport and he was only making
$7.50 an hour. What was he supposed to do?
What would you say to the people that think he should
have a job anyway?
He was going to school. He had football practice. He didn't
have to have a job. He was living at his mother's house. He was doing fine. He
was about to go off to college. He was doing fine. He didn't have a part time
job. He had a lot of extracurriculars going on.
Was the fact that he had a football scholarship a major
source of your anger toward Christinna?
You just want the best for your kids. You just do. We have
followed Isiah and all of our kids. Every last one of my kids got a
scholarship to college. And every last one of them has a career. Every last one
of them. My youngest daughter, she didn't get a scholarship to college, but she
went to the military. She came to me when she was in the 11th grade
and said, "Ma, I don't want to go to college. I'm going to the
military." And she's been there 8 years.
We want a future. It's hard when you're black. Now what kind
of future does he have? He started college. He did start junior college, but he was going to work in
the morning. Then he would get off
of work at 11:00 and go to his classes. Then he would go back to work and work
till 9 or 10:00. That's hard. So he didn't do well.
Is he currently enrolled?
He's not in college now, but he told us he's going back to
college in January. I don't know if that is going to happen now because they
decided to split up. She's telling everyone that she left him, but that is not
true. He told her to leave because they were tired of all the mess. So anyway,
she left, she went to New York, but she called him 50, 60, 70 times a day.
"Come home." "Please come back." In the meantime, my
daughter had gotten him a job at United Airlines -- a really good job. He could
fly free, so he was flying up there every other week to see Destiny. He flew up
there about two weeks ago and when he came back, he went to his boss, picked up
his last paycheck and quit. He said he was going back up there because they
were going to try to make it one more time. And that is where he is right now
today. He is in New York. They are living together.
Do they live with her mom?
They won't tell us where they live. She has an apartment
because the homeless shelter thereā¦got her an apartment.
They don't want you to know where they live?
I'm not coming up there. They know that. We haven't asked.
He knows how to get in touch with us. He knows we all fly free. He knows that.
He knows that if he has to get home, he can do that. But, he drove there this
time.
She had a formsping account that was opened. She talked
about him, calling him a deadbeat dad. "He's a loser. He beat me. I will
never get back together with him." But then soon as she knew he was on his
way, she closed that account. Because she knew he probably would read it. If
you go now, you can't even access it.
Christinna said in an interview, "Isiah has unfortunately chosen not to be a part of Destiny's life." Is that true?
That's a lie. That's a big lie. Isiah loves Destiny. He loves her. He's always been a part of her life. If he [were] to find out that Destiny wasn't his, that would hurt him so bad.
So, at this point you're not pushing for the paternity test anymore?
We don't care. We don't want anything to do with
Christinna, her mother, none of them. What we do want is for him to be happy.
People are saying, "They are so bitter because they don't have any men in
their life." Please. The men in our family decided they didn't want to be
on the show. All of us got a man. Please. Some of us got two or three. I'm just
keeping it real. We got men.
Have you talked to lawyers? Where are you in that
process?
I was working on that, but now I just decided I was going
to leave it alone. But I'm so tired because I keep seeing stuff like this.
Fans of the show and commenters on this blog still seem
to be very angry about the way you acted.
I've been reading the comments and I also replied to a
couple of them. You know what? People can be angry all they want. The bottom
line is this is my family. This is my grandchild. They don't know what we went
through with this girl. This girl keyed his car. This girl jumped out of a
moving car in the middle of a freeway when MTV went to get her. MTV went to New
York to get her. Her mother and her must have been arguing because she jumped
out of the van and was running through the traffic on the freeway. MTV filmed
it all and did not put it on the show. They told us.
Are you still receiving death threats?
Yes, I was getting crazy stuff the first two times the show
aired. But after people watched the show two or three times, I was getting
apologies. After two weeks, people were requesting me to be friends on my Facebook. They wanted to talk to me and apologize. Because they watched the
show twice and kind of saw something. I saw it too. I've watched it a few times
too just to see how devious MTV was with the situation.
Have you though about fighting for custody?
No. We don't want anything to do with her. Destiny is
innocent. We love Destiny. But we can love her from afar. Until we find out
she's really his child, we're going to stay neutral with the situation. As far
as Isiah's concerned, we love him. If he needs us, we already told him, we told
him before he left -- we'll be there.
