James Cameron said earlier this year that 3D films are the key to ending film piracy on the Internet. Well, he's an idiot, because, according to the statistics taken from various trackers by torrent site Torrentfreak.com, Avatar was the most pirated movie of 2010, raking in 11.4 million illegal downloads (which I find hard to be believe because Avatar sucked).
However, the piracy is no tear on Cameron's fat check, since Avatar was dubbed the highest grossing movie of all time after pulling in $2.8 million worldwide at the box office this year (that's probably why he's not b*tching over the matter). Kick-Ass came in second with 11.4 million illegal downloads, and Inception in third with 9.7 million (I'm guilty here). For piece of mind, JJ Abram's Star Trek was the top dog for piracy last year.
Here's the entire top 10 list for 2010. Most of these are pretty funny. And again, Cameron, your ideology failed.
1. Avatar - 16.58 million
2. Kick-Ass - 11.4 million
3. Inception - 9.7 million
4. Shutter Island - 9.5 million
5. Iron Man 2 - 8.8 million
6. Clash Of The Titans - 8 million
7. Green Zone - 7.7 million
8. Sherlock Holmes - 7.16 million
9. The Hurt Locker - 6.85 million
10. Salt - 6.7 million
