6 Best Movie Trailer Mash-Ups

On Dec 18, 2010

Movie mash-ups are so fun, especially when they expose one film to be a blatant cheat off another. There are probably many times we've left the theaters thinking that particular film was a little too familiar, but alas, could never place our finger on it. So in honor of last week's video mash-up of Black Swan/Showgirls, here are the top 6 movie trailer mash-ups.

1. Forrest Gump/The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Perhaps the best mash-up there is out there considering the plotlines and characters are nearly identical. They are both outcasts, they have unrequited love for a girl they meet at a young age, the girl moves away, the guy fights in a war, lives on a boat, returns home to his mother, and then some. I prefer Forrest.

2. Ninja Turtles/Reservoir Dogs

I love ninjas and I love reservoir dogs. Now it all makes sense. Brilliant!

3. Toy Story 2/Requiem for a Dream

I love Requiem and think its one of Darren Aronofsky's greatest films. It's deep, dark and disturbing with a great soundtrack. Now overlay the music with Disney-Pixar's Toy Story 2 scenes and Aronosky's film instantly becomes animated. There's even the whole losing the arm thing in common.

4. Pocahantas/Avatar

Just like my number one mash-up, the plot, characters and deception are nearly identical. Just swap out the American Indians for the Navis, add some 3-D effects and voila, Avatar.

5. The Muppet Movie/Ocean's 11

Who knew puppets could be so sexy? Especially with Brad Pitt and George Clooney's voices.

6. Up/Gran Torino

Funny, I didn't like Gran Torino because of the terrible acting. I loved Up, on the other hand, so now that it's Clint Eastwood's voice in as Up character Carl, I'm appreciating Gran Torino for what it is (or isn't).
