While
we thought Jersey’s Gaslight Anthem was going to continue down the path Bruce
Springsteen cleared (you have heard American
Slang, the follow up to the sophomore effort The ’59 Sound, right?) it seems the guys are taking a detour.
Gaslight's frontman, Brian Fallon, recently wrote on his blog that the band will
begin writing the next album just after the new year saying:
When we start writing
our new record, which should be around the 1st of the year or so, I'm thinking
of really taking Dire Straits and the blues much more seriously. I think
there's been a lack in blues music's updating for the last few years. There was
Jack White, which was cool, but I think I'd like to hear blues songs with
chorus's. That might be my new goal. Which kinda reminds me that Mark Knopfler
was a genius and people don't say that enough.
Well,
all right then. Time to dig into the past through our parents’ -- and hey,
maybe even grandparents’ – record collections to get a feel for what’s ahead.
