Last night I attended a late screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, populated by the usual age range of Potterheads--and more than a few Twihards, it would seem. Obviously the two series dovetail in terms of certain fans, but there were at least two references in the movie that sounded like shoutouts to both groups.
First, we have Ron listening to the list of missing wizards and witches each night. One evening it sounds as if the announcer says "Bella and Jake"--maybe Steve Kloves is a Bella/Jacob 'shipper?
Later comes a more telling reference: When Hermione begins to read the story of the Deathly Hallows, she says that three brothers were walking a winding road at twilight--at which point Ron interrupts and says that his mother always used "midnight." Hermione shoots him an annoyed look, and he adds (paraphrased), "Twilight is fine, better actually."
The automatic association could simply be a result of how much Twilight has saturated our consciousness, but just as Eclipse was especially self-referential, Deathly Hallows could be playing the meta card, as well. What do you think?
