Mel Gibson admits to slapping ("but not hitting") Oksana Grigorieva in his sworn declaration, according to TMZ. He claims he did it because he was afraid she would hurt the baby. And clearly, violence is the answer.
According to the filed declaration from June 23, 2010, Mel says he grabbed their daughter, Lucia, into the middle of an argument (really smart) and shouted, "Stop yelling or you will make her into a retarded brain damaged idiot!"
Then, he says she "spun around" and rain into the backyard with Lucia. Apparently, their yard is dangerous at night and she was hanging out by some "thorny trees." He begged her to bring their daughter back inside and she ran into her older son's room and "started swinging Lucia erratically
in her arms, jerking her body from side to side to keep Lucia out of my
reach."
Mel claimed he was afraid of Shaken Baby Syndrome because Oksana was "hysterical" and her "rapid movements
were causing Lucia's little body to be flung from one side to the
other, her head shaking violently."
Um, that's understandable. But definitely doesn't warrant you slapping your girlfriend. Sorry, buddy.
"I slapped Oksana one time
with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality," he said. "I did not
slap her hard, I was just trying to shock her so that she would stop
screaming, continuing shaking Lucia back and forth."
Ohhhh, so it wasn't hard? So much better.
