It's a collaboration that's, gasp!, the eighth time in the making. The film? Dark Shadows. The role? Blood-thirsty vampire. The premise? Probably something with spirals and shrieking and monsters and all that predictable, creative stuff that Tim Burton is known for.
The film is an adaptation of a 1960's gothic vampire-themed soap opera "Dark Shadows" that sky-rocketed to cult classic status after the introduction of a 200-year old vampire named Barnabus Collins into the story line. Johnny Depp will be playing the juicy lead role, a character whom he idolized as a child.
Also on board to pen the script is writer Seth Grahame-Smith who is notorious for his literary mash-ups like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abe Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. The latter film about --you guessed it--the country's sixteenth president moonlighting as a secret vampire slayer, already has Tim Burton on board to produce it. Possibly another Johnny Depp role here? Hmm? Hmmm?
Dark Shadows will begin filming in April, which might complicate Depp's other movie roles that are set to film around the same time. Looks like he's going to have to drop out of Kathryn Bigelow's Sleeping Dogs film.
