It's not necessarily a good week, but some high profile movies are out this weekend. Are any worthwhile? Keep reading to see. (Our reviews hyperlinked in the titles.)
I love so many people in this movie. Hell, I just literally spent an article figuratively fellating James Wolk for his work on Lone Star. And Kristen Bell? Veronica Mars is one of my favorite shows ever. Then Jamie Lee Curtis (Trading Places boob scene!) and Sigourney Weaver (Ripley!). And yet it looks like utter dog sh*t. Anna seems to think so too.
Wall Street: Money Never Sleep
I saw this one. Unfortunately. I was never a fan of the original, and that one's kind of a well made movie. This one's crap. It's typical late period Oliver Stone: addled, schizophrenic, and preachy. Most of the performances are pretty solid, but the movie itself? Sh*t. Dogsh*t.
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole
I was kind of excited about this one. The trailer looks beautiful. The cast looks solid (Hugo Weaving, Sam Neill, Emilie de Ravin, and Abbie Cornish). The director looks... Oh right. Zack Snyder likes to visually masturbate on the screen in lieu of storytelling. Benny's not a fan.
The week's lone recommendation and it's hard to fully recommend it. It's not a fun movie, but it's brilliantly done. Also it's a great way to hallucinate without having to take drugs. The movie is a high concept look at death and dying and though hard to watch, it will stick with you longer than almost any movie in recent memory. You should go see it if just to be able to talk about it.
