Here's an interesting bit of casting news—Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood) has just signed on to play a young Brian Wilson in the upcoming biopic Love And Mercy. To be directed by Bill Pohlad (a producer whose credits include The Tree of Life and Into The Wild), the film will follow the Beach Boys songwriter's trials and travails both in and out of the band, his well-documented mental health struggles and his relationship with his wife Melinda.
"I am thrilled that Paul Dano has signed on to play me during one of my most creative explosions and most fulfilling musical times in my career," Wilson himself told RollingStone.com. "I still can't believe how cool it is that my life will be portrayed on the big screen, and to have Bill Pohlad as the captain of the Sloop John B is amazing! It just makes me feel so humble. I can't wait to see it with a full tub of buttered popcorn."
The Older Brian Wilson role has yet to be cast… and Trent Reznor writing partner Atticus Ross is in talks to write the film's score… but already I'm picking up some good vibrations (sorry, had to do it) about this one: the project has Brian Wilson's approval, the rights to his music and one pretty spectacular lead actor already attached. Excited to see Brian Wilson's life and times on the big screen? Let me know in the comments section below.
