'Knight and Day' Eclipsed at Box Office

On Jun 28, 2010

TOMMY: "CAN YOU SEE ME?”

A $59 million dollar haul helped Pixar's Toy Story 3 predictably claim the weekend box office's top spot on Sunday, with Adam Sander's chuckler, Grown Ups, landing (God, help us) not far behind with its $41 million take. But the Cruise-Holmes household must not have been too jazzed to hear that the former’s first leading man outing in a blockbuster since 2006’s Mission: Impossible III earned a not-so-hot $20.5 million for a third place finish, proving that people might rather see Cameron Diaz try to kill Cruise (as she did in Vanilla Sky) than to snog him.

Does Paul Thomas Anderson need to be called in again to give this poor guy’s career a little jumpstart? Or Steven Spielberg? Surely Uncle Stevie can find a role in the upcoming War Horse for one of his favorite golden boys.

Here are the rest of the weekend figures as of Monday, which prove that people might find a good book and indoor central air comparable to the recent glut of summer movies:
