T.I.L.F.T...Summer: Jenny And Johnny Album And Tour

On Jun 22, 2010

Indie princess Jenny Lewis is taking a break from Rilo Kiley and her solo efforts to work on a collaboration with her singer/songwriter boyfriend Johnathan Rice. The duo, fittingly named Jenny and Johnny, have released their first song for free download to anyone who joins the band's mailing list. "Scissor Runner" is a fun musical romp that makes me think of summer block parties--it's short, semi-sweet, and familiar without being boring.

Ms. Lewis hinted that the album will debut August 31st by posting this adorable picture on Twitter with the caption "8/31/10":

Immediately after the record drops (hopefully) the lovebirds will launch a national tour, starting in California and moving East, where they will open for Pavement in Boston and New York City. The pair has made a political statement in their tour by choosing to boycott Arizona due to the controversial immigration law.

The statement on the band's website says:

"some of you may have noticed that although we are traveling the US extensively, we are not playing any shows in arizona. the arizona state legislature recently passed a bill, “SB 1070″, as part of their new immigration policy. this bill legalizes and sanctions racial profiling. they can stop you in the street, arrest and even deport you based on what you look like. we say: fuck that. so many of our friends and fans are of latino/chicano/hispanic origin, and we wanna show our love and respect for them by boycotting the state of arizona until they come to their senses. to all our rad southwestern peeps, we’re sorry that the brutes are running the show and we hope they get voted out of office."

Too bad for folks in AZ, because we are definitely looking forward to this album and its tour.
