Mayor Emanuel Gets Emotional After Shooting Claims Life Of Teen
CHICAGO (CBS) — Mayor Rahm Emanuel choked up as he described speaking to the mother of a teenage honor student who was fatally shot while seeking shelter from the rain in a park.
Emanuel’s voice cracked as he said he spoke to the mother of Hadiya Pendleton, who was with a group of 10 to 12 teenagers under a canopy in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park on the 4500 block of South Oakenwald Avenue around 2:30 p.m., when someone jumped a fence, ran up to them, and opened fire.
Emanuel said somebody needs to come forward with information that will lead to arrests.
He also said he met with Police Supt. Garry McCarthy on Wednesday morning and hinted there will be changes with the police department.
However, he did not give specifics.
