What a year for movies! I have done my cinephile duty and seen most of the nominated films. Based on the awards season trends, industry buzz, and my personal preferences, I have selected my picks for the 2010 Oscars.
I was most torn between Avatar and The Hurt Locker for the major awards. After careful consideration of all of the factors, I have chosen the innovative Avatar for Best Picture and many of the artistic awards; and the powerful Hurt Locker for many of the technical awards (sound, editing), plus Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director. I loved both films, and hope they both win big on Sunday.
The acting categories are locked up except for Best Actress. I went with Sandra over Meryl because of award show momentum, and industry love for the first-time nominee. I ADORE Meryl, but it's totally Sandra's year.
Based on my viewings, I chose Food, Inc. as Best Documentary, The White Ribbon as Best Foreign Language Film, Logorama as Best Animated Short, and Miracle Fish as best Live-Action Short. I hope the Academy gives them some golden-man love!
The rest of my predictions are educated guesses...hope I'm right!
Be sure to watch the big show on ABC on Sunday March 7 at 5 PST, 8 EST! I will have a full recap of the show on Carly's Critiques next week!
