Those proto-psychedelic troubadours and overall harbingers of good faith Akron/Family want YOU. That's right, they've grown tired of the stale dichotomy between bands and fans and they want you to create something -- for them, for you, for everyone. Specifically, they want you to be a musician (if only for a few quick minutes) and they know you can do it. That's why they've created "Woody Guthrie's America." The song, which began as a sweet, show-ending hymnal has evolved into a full-out communal digital age singalong.
What does that all mean? We'll clarify for you. Akron/Family have written a song they want you to reinterpret in any way you can imagine. Already on the project's official site, dozens of musicians and not-normally-musicians from all over the world are represented with their very own version of the song. How did they do it? Any way they saw fit. Singing into an iPhone, into an answering machine, arranging it for a 5-piece band, programming it in Garageband -- there's no discrimination and all of it will be posted and shared. As a bonus, anyone that submits a version will be thrown on the guest list for whatever Akron/Family show they want. So get to it people. They've already written the song so the hard's part is over -- all you need to do is make it yours.
