It was a strange evening for late night television yesterday as Hurricane Sandy made audience gathering of any sort an outright impossibility. The Daily Show and The Colbert Report canceled their broadcasts altogether, while both Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with David Letterman carried on without a studio audience. The latter, interestingly enough, featured a performance by Interpol frontman Paul Banks, whose new solo album Banks is out now and who, I have to say, actually seemed to sound better in the gloomy non-atmosphere of the empty Ed Sullivan Theater.
See what I mean?? Interpol has always kind of been the quintessential rainy day in NYC band… and with that eerily prolific album cover (as expertly pointed out by Mr. Letterman) to boot, Banks & Co. couldn't have been a more appropriate choice. Wonder if The Cure is free to perform "Prayers For Rain" tonight?
