"This is a guitar record," said Kaki King recently, describing her new album Glow, out October 9 via Velour Music Group. "This is the sound of a person playing guitar. Whatever additions we made, the fundamental of this record is still one person playing a guitar. That's who I am." If that sounds like a bare-bones retreat to the stark, one-gal-show of her breakthrough second album, 2004's Legs You Make Us Longer, you might be pleasantly surprised by "Great Round Burn," the first taste of what to expect on the new album, currently downloadable for free over at RollingStone.com.

Kaki King Announces New Album Glow, Fall Tour Dates
First thoughts?
It starts off with some of the same shimmering electric guitar finger-picking that informed her vaguely post-rocking …Until We Felt Red and Dreaming Of Revenge albums, but quickly blossoms into a relentlessly paced, furiously strummed acoustic folk barnburner, completely with fire and brimstone fiddles and (of course) Kaki's prodigiously intricate guitar playing. This may have been written "in tribute to the sun which is the source of all life and much pain," but it's really a tribute and testament to her preposterous talents and keen knack for making music both technically astounding and emotionally gripping.
