This past Saturday night, the 2012 Paralympics came to a triumphant close in London and although it couldn't hope to outmatch the sheer "is this seriously happening right now?" awesome factor of seeing Stephen Hawking and Orbital rock out to a mashed-up cover of "Spasticus Autisticus" (see below), the closing ceremony did boast a couple of high-profile, maybe-you've-heard-of-them musical performers: Coldplay, Jay-Z and Rihanna… all in one place as cosmically intended.
Coldplay kicked things off with a typically rousing rendition of Mylo Xyloto highlight "Paradise" (it's embarrassing how much I still… still… love this song) before the "Princess Of China" herself sailed into port on a roving pirate ship wearing a pretty rockin' orange mesh type thing… which was quickly disposed of by the time Jay-Z arrived to lead a straightforward version of "Run This Town." Check it all out below.

Apart from Rihanna shamelessly stealing my haircut, it was a pretty exemplary show, complete with fireworks, crazy Cirque de Soleil shit happening all over the place… hell, even Coldplay's day-glo Mylo Xyloto stage set-up seemed somehow less annoying. Unsurprisingly, I'm already struggling to remember who even performed at the Olympics closing ceremony—I distinctly remember it being nowhere near this memorable. And yes, that's a sentence I'm sticking with.
