Typically, summer is a three-month break from the normal TV season. Actually, that's exactly what it is. It's the time most networks take a few risks and hope something works out. After all, most of us are out doing way more productive things than watching TV (like drinking). But we gotta say, summer 2012 was a damn good season of television.
Here's a look at our favorite shows this summer (in no particular order)...

1. Suits
Season 2, USA
I admit, I didn't watch Suits when it premiered last year. I was still under the impression that USA couldn't produce anything other than mediocre television. But boy I was wong. The drama (and sexual tension) at Pearson Hardman was at an all-time high this summer.

2. Degrassi
Season 12, TeenNick
Let's just put it this way: someone lost their virginity, someone proposed marriage, someone was sexual harrassed, someone had a pregnancy scare, someone had trouble kissing another dude, and Eli and Clare got back together.

3. Big Brother
Season 14, CBS
Even with four all-star players back in the game, this season started out painfully slow. The cast is not my favorite, by far, but over the last week or two, Dan's crazy master plan gave us all reason to watch again.

4. Girls
Season 1, HBO
This show is not your typical wannabe hipster show, as much as I judged it to be. Lena Dunham crafted a perfectly likeable but totally naive character in Hannah, a girl a lot of us girls can relate to. She and the rest of our favorite Brooklynites kept us watching week after week.

5. Teen Wolf
Season 2, MTV
Jeff Davis stepped up his game this season when introducing the mystery surrounding the lizard-wolf creature, The Kanima. While Tyler Posey was at the center of all the drama, this season gave way for costars Coltan Haynes, Dylan O'Brien and Holland Roden to really step up their own game.

6. The Newsroom
Season 1, HBO
Despite its role as a punching bag to grumpy critics, The Newsroom entertained the hell out of us this summer, flaws and all. The highs far outweighed the sometimes unbelievable lows.

7. Pretty Little Liars
Season 3, ABC Family
The liars spent this season trying to find answers in the aftermath of Maya's death and Mona's crazy train ride right into a mental hospital. We don't want to spoil the rest, but our jaw is still on the floor from that season finale. The "A" team is in full effect, ya'll.

8. Breaking Bad
Season 5, AMC
Gus is dead and Walt fell deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole as he struggled to uphold his meth business and his marriage at the same time.

9. Awkward.
Season 2, MTV
Whether you're Team Matty or Team Jake, we felt for both of them as they pined after Jenna and Jake finally learned the truth about what went down between his girlfriend and BFF. Throw in some classic Sadie "you're welcomes" and you've got a damn fine sophomore season.

10. The LA Complex
Season 2, The CW
Yeah, yeah. We know about 5 people watch this show, but we're one of them. Aside from being highly underrated, we just can't get enough of the ever-present drama at The Lux.
What was your favorite show of the summer?
