I've only been in Brooklyn for about two years, so I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon of getting defensive about all this. Maybe if he said he hated Cropwell, Alabama, I'd feel differently, but in terms of New York City, I can't rightly call it home until I've been here for ten years, at least by what the Italian woman across the street says (it's kind of like the Amity Island policy in Jaws).
Myself aside, I would like to think that "real New Yorkers" would do otherwise with the authorized justification over this whole Lil Wayne deal, but I've yet to pick up anything official. Here's the story in case you missed it:
"Flat out, I don't like New York," Weezy told MTV. "The whole Summer Jam/Nicki thing, I can't really remember the situation, but I know it was my call. As far as last week['s show], last week was awesome. I think everything happens for a reason, and I think when people say that, you're not supposed to leave it at, 'Everything happens for a reason.' I believe everything happens for a reason and then you make the most of that reason. I think we made the most of it last week."
So, while that's mostly about Summer Jam, it's sure to tick off plenty of the Big Apple populous in tune to Weezy. We'll see what happens, but I'm prepared to kick back and watch the public backlash.
