In 2009, they were the pictures seen around the world: Barbadian singer Rihanna, bruised and bloodied: the result of a fight with then-boyfriend Chris Brown. It is three years later, but to the singer, the physical wounds may have faded, but the emotional scars remain.

In a revealing interview with Oprah that aired Sunday night as part of Oprah's Next Chapter, Rihanna details her tumultuous relationship with Brown, even confessing - through tears - that she still loves him.
"We’ve built a trust again," Rihanna confides to Oprah. "We love each other, and we probably always will."
When asked outright if she is still seeing Brown, Rihanna says no, noting that she is single and Brown is in a relationship. She does admit, however, that they "have maintained a very close friendship since the restraining order has been dropped."
The "Umbrella" singer also reveals what it’s like when she sees Brown now: "It's awkward. It's awkward because I still love him. My stomach drops. I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me."
And when asked if Brown was a "true love" for her, Rihanna doesn’t hesitate to respond. "Absolutely," she said. "I think he was the true love of my life."
