There's only one unbreakable rule when it comes to filming a Garbage music video: dress Shirley Manson up in something wicked cool and just put a camera in front of her. The new clip for Not Your Kind Of People (out now… check out my rave review) single "Big Bright World" is no exception— everyone's favorite alt-rock redhead gets a little Chelsea Wolfe on us while a bunch of people jump in a pool and there's creepy old cathedral statues and it's in black and white except for a few splashes of colors and good grief why are you still reading this? Check it out below.
You know, they really don't make "random stuff" music videos like they used to. A few wilting flowers here, a rotten old cemetery plot there… a fat lady in the swimming pool. What does it all mean? It means you're watching a music video, duh! In the same way their music is still successfully mining the glam-pop-alt-rock that made them a serious deal in the '90s, I feel like Garbage hasn't lost their old school visual sensibility either. It's like they aren't changing with the times… but in that good sort of way. What am I talking about? I'm mostly rambling to fill up space. The video's cool. The album's great.
