Hours later, Los Angeles Port Police pulled the director's body from the water. The coroner’s office identified Scott's body on Sunday evening. A suicide note was reportedly found in Scott's office.
Scott was a well-known movie director and producer, creating blockbuster action films such as Top Gun, Man On Fire, and his final directorial effort, 2010's Unstoppable. Scott also enjoyed a career in television, executive producing CBS' The Good Wife and Numb3rs.
The filmmaker owned a successful production company, Scott Free Productions, with his older brother, director-producer Ridley Scott, whose films include Thelma and Louise, Gladiator, and Alien.
At the time of his death, Scott had recently finished filming Out of the Furnace, a drama starring Christian Bale that he was producing.
Other Scott films include The Taking of Pelham 123, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Enemy of the State, starring Will Smith.
Scott lived in Beverly Hills with his third wife, actress-model Donna Wilson. The couple has twin sons. Family spokesman Simon Halls requests that "their privacy be respected at this time."
