Walter White, the complicated protagonist/antagonist of AMC's Breaking Bad, is able to become a major power player in the meth business, precisely because he refuses to use the product that he makes. Walter White, the real-life meth dealer who has shown up on Alabama's '50 Most-Wanted' list, doesn't appear to have the same discipline.
In a wonderfully satisfying little story of life imitating art (yay meth!), Walter Eddy White, 55, of Tuscaloosa Alabama, is being sought by authorities after disappearing in the wake of meth trafficking charges. The real White was arrested in 2008 for meth trafficking and has since been out prison but on probation, until he got arrested again in January, once again for meth trafficking. He missed a court appearance in July, and now appears to be on the run.
Much like the Breaking Bad show, I have conflicted on the real Walt White. Do I root for him? It's tempting, of course, just because it's such a sublime coincidence that there's some dopey meth cook named Walt White trolling around Alabama. Or do I root for his downfall, because he is, after all, a pretty shitty and destructive human being. And meth is actually a pretty awful scourge, even if Meth Heads are a lot of fun to laugh at.
What do you think? Are you rooting for the real Walt to get away, or do you want to see Alabama's Hank search the bastard down and take him out?
