Various media speculators, mainly Jezebel, were curious what Madonna had in store for her shows in Moscow this past Tuesday, August 7 and in St. Petersburg on Thursday due to the three members of riot grrrl band Pussy Riot recently going on trial for their punk prayer protest against Putin back in February.
According to "The Guardian," Madonna adorned a black balaclava for her performance in Moscow on Tuesday with Pussy Riot scrawled across her back and performed "Like a Virgin." Her performance was met with a remark from a Russian deputy premier. CBS News reports that Dmitry Rogozin tweeted, "every former w. wants to give lectures on morality when she grows old. Especially during foreign tours." W = whore.
She announced her support of the band to the crowd saying, “To these three girls who have been in jail now for five months, who are going through a trial right now: I pray for your freedom. I know we all pray for your freedom and let’s hope that one day we really will live in a world filled with peace and freedom and tolerance.”

To add more controversial topics to the pot, during her show on Thursday, Madonna spoke out in support of gay rights during her St. Petersburg show on Thursday, August 9, Putin's hometown.
"The Chicago Tribune" reports that pink wristbands were handed out at the entrance to her show on Thursday night. Also, "The Tribune" states that, although homosexuality is no longer met with jail sentences, the anti-gay legislation still criminalizes queer identities as "damaging" to heteronormative moral values.
You go, grrrl!
However, yesterday backlash ensued as "The Express Tribune" with "The International Herald Tribune" reports that a group of Russian Orthodox followers burned Madonna's picture outside Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral, the famous cathedral where Pussy Riot performed their anti-Putin protest.
