Los Angeles indie rock duo Earlimart (whose outstanding 2004 album Treble and Tremble is required listening for Elliott Smith fans everywhere) are back after a quick little four-year hiatus. As announced late yesterday, the band's seventh studio album System Preferences will be released digitally on September 18 and then on physically on October 16. The official press release describes the new album as "lush and lovely soundtrack for a sad, beautiful world." Sounds about right… and also sounds like I've found my true calling in life: writing press release hyperbole!
Toss an e-mail address into the widget below and download the album's lead single: a slow burning bit of business called "97 Heart Attack."
First thoughts?
Sounds like the old Earlimart I love and remember—Aaron Espinoza gets "working on this heart attack" over a hissing steam punk march, gently bubbling and growling beneath a vaguely glitched-out acoustic guitar strum and the sparse swell of analogue synths. (See? That could go in a press release, right?) Seriously, though, these guys are great… the new album's going to be fantastic and HOLY GOOD GRIEF, THIS SONG IS ONLY 2:21 LONG?? Sad face. September 18, I need you in my arms right now.
