Electronic Dance Music superstar Deadmau5 (or EDM's Eeyore, as I like to think of him) is… surprise, surprise… pretty depressed. Again. I mean, would you be? Have you spent any extended amount of time around a group of Deadmau5 fans? Exactly. The oft-helmeted DJ/producer (better known by his mom and landlord as Joel Zimmerman) has become notorious for his blog rants and propensity for off-stage miserablism—could possibly account for some of the fuel behind the fire of his latest Tumblr post.
So heres whats happening," he writes [sic throughout]. "im going to unplug for a wee bit. which doesnt mean im cancelling any upcoming shows or anything, im just gunna slam on the breaks for a bit and force myself to endure some quiet time. in that time, obviously the gears will still be moving, ill still be writing, and the releases will still come out (heads up for something crazy real soon like) and yeah… i got a lot of work to do on some stuff. so, best i just chill the fuck out a bit and just get it done, and get it done RIGHT, until im 100% satisfied with it. Then our regularily scheduled program shall continue. but yeah, im basicly pretty miserable right now and need to pull the fuck back and figure out whatever the fuck it is i do."
Insert electro-house version of "Tears Of A Clown" here. Can't say I blame the guy… again, mentally envision your average Deadmau5 fanatic. Despite my non-interest in his work, I can't help but root for Zimmerman—from the interviews I've read, I understand him to be a pretty low key guy, more or less uninterested in the relentlessly sea of sweaty people lifestyle that so many of his EDM peers have thoughtlessly embraced. I imagine his Netflix queue must be at least as preposterous as mine. So here's hoping Deadmau5 can take a little time to himself to focus and recharge his creative batteries without sweaty hipster college kids screaming at him.
Deadmau5 fans… don't scream at me. Also, how do you guys feel about Deadmau5 going on the down low for a while? Get the conversation started in our comments section below.
