Out of the bulk of the former Def Jux family, I can't tell you too much about Yak Ballz, but to join old labelmates here in 2012, he's decided to let loose a vaulted project to put his name back in rotation. Here's the statement he released:
"So much has happened through the creation of this record. Happy to share it with you it’s entirety. Welcome to Gas Galaxy. I would like to thank Chapter 7 for making this possible. To Oliver Cartwright for the amazing art provided for individual tracks in the process. Special thanks to Lunice and Circuit Bored for the remixes."
Former Def Jux majors have been dropping plenty of projects this year (or are planning to), so we seem to be in the midst of a resurgence of the strange that, unfortunately, had to slit itself open back in 2010. Aesop Rock, El-P and Murs have all dropped LPs, Del is set to roll out the long-awaited Deltron 3030 sophomore project, Cage and RJD2 have been sharing some new sounds, so maybe we can expect to see more of the once-was continue to produce.
Here's Gas Galaxy; give it a listen, throw up your thoughts, and hit the jump to download.
