Arctic Monkeys performed a brand-new song titled "Do I Wanna Know?" last night at the Majestic Ventura Theater in Ventura, CA, the lead date of their 2013 tour and first show since the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony last July. Artist Spotlight: Darlingside

Who?

New England "string rock" quintet Darlingside—Sam Kapala (drums/vocals), Don Mitchell (guitar/vocals), Auyon MukHarji (strings/vocals), Harris Paseltiner (cello/guitar/vocals) and David Senft (vocals/bass).

 

Sounds Like:

Airy, warm, gently billowing indie pop peppered with gorgeous, gently sweeping string arrangements and cotton candy cloud layers of rapturous vocal harmonies. Shacking up under one roof in the Pioneer Valley, the five members of Darlingside brought their disparate rock, jazz, folk and classical influences together to create a vibrant new sound on their self-released EP 1 in 2010. Recorded in their home studio with producer Nathaniel Kunkel, the group's full-length debut Pilot Machines was release to rave reviews earlier this year.

 

For Fans Of:

Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, Mumford & Sons and other dramatic American-obsessed groups who know their way around a string arrangement.
