'Parenthood' Casts 'American Idol' Finalist Paul McDonald

Parenthood

American Idol finalist Paul McDonald just landed his first big acting gig. He's been cast in a recurring role on the NBC family drama, Parenthood.

According to TVLine.com,  the 27-year-old musician will enter the series as a love interest to Amber (Mae Whitman), an assistant at Crosby and Adam's studio where Paul's character will be recording music.

As most of you know, Paul came in eighth place on season 10 of the singing competition. Last year, he married Twilight star Nikki Reed. This will be his acting debut.

Season 4 of Parenthood premieres Tuesday, Sept. 11 on NBC.
