You know how British people are funny in that completely cheerless, totally humorless way? Well people at the London Olympics are apparently getting quite a kick out of it.
The first viral video to come out of London is "Happiest Olympic Worker," in which Rachel Onosanwo sits on a chair with a loudspeaker, proclaiming in a dry monotome just how happy and excited she is to be there, while on-lookers snicker and giggle.
"My mouth is dry, I need some water, but I'm still talking because I'm that happy I'm going to overcome it," she says. "I cannot contain my excitement everybody - today is special day we are going to be telling our children's, children's, children's, children's, children about this day."
Indeed.
Naturally, Onosanwo was interviewed about her techniques:
"Naturally, the way I speak, I wouldn't be able to be over the top," she said. "Then as I was speaking and I realized that my voice was very monotone - I thought I might as well play with that... and just say that I was excited rather than show it in my voice."
Onosanwo explained all this with an even voice and a straight face, of course.
"I'm not a smiler," she said - another common trait of British people, because they have bad teeth.
