This season of Top Chef Masters takes place in Las Vegas. I gotta say, I'm a much bigger fan of the original Top Chef, but what the hell. Here we go. We could all use a little more Curtis Stone in our lives, right?
As for the critics, we have James Oseland, Ruth Reichi and Krista Simmons. Personally, they are a little... boring, for my taste. Just in comparison to Tom, Padma and Gail. But alas, this is Top Chef Masters, I know.
I recognize some of the cheftestants as they walk in, but bear with me. I usually don't learn names until a few weeks in. Too much going on.
Quickfire Challenge
The chefs are asked to pick partners to create one dish. Winners get $10K to split between their charities. Curtis deals them cards to find out which ingredients they will be working with. Some of them definitely don't mesh well together.
"I don't eat the bolognas."
They will be cooking for three professional card dealers. The chefs watch as the people critique their food and most of it seems positive. But, the winners are... Chris and Patricia.
Elimination Challenge
The chefs will be creating a buffet for street performers. They are divided into two random teams. After shopping at Whole Foods for ingredients, Curtis shows up with lotto tickets. Uh oh. The chefs scratch them to find various surprises, good and bad. Some have money, some deduct time from cooking, and two of the chefs have to switch teams! Oh, and Debbie wins immunity. In the end, the teams are told to make Mexican and Indian buffets, regardless of what they already bought. Each team can decide to send one person for new ingredients or just work with what they have. The red team sends Art who was the slowest person in the store to begin with, so that doesn't seem too smart. Meanwhile, Missy cuts the sh*t out of her finger.
Critics' Table
The red team heads in first and Missy announces that she's out. She has to leave because she needs surgery! Ouch. Curtis tells the red team that they won the challenge and Chris is the winning chef, earning $10K for his charity. When the blue team heads in to get critiqued, Curtis asks them if they sent anyone back to the store. They didn't and their food didn't represent India at all. Debbie, Sue and Takashi are in the bottom three, but since Debbie has immunity, she'll be staying. In the end, Sue packs her knives.
SumOlogy: Meh. We need some drama up in here.
