Hold The Phone: They're Making A 'Magic Mike' Sequel?

Are you sitting comfortably? Because I’m going to be honest with you for a moment. You may think I’m being facetious, but I swear I am not.

I F*CKING LOVED MAGIC MIKE.

No, seriously. It was an incredible movie. It was funny, compelling, sexy and dramatic all rolled into a film about the lives and hopes of male strippers. Before this film, I had always wondered why Channing Tatum kept getting cast in things. I didn’t truly understand his appeal. I feel like his head was way too rectangular to be attractive (he looks like he belongs in Minecraft). I never felt that he could emote enough to be an actor. And then I saw Magic Mike and realized that I was wrong about C-Tates. He was great.

But really, what was even better than the actual depth and cinematic nuance of the film was Matthew “Alright Alright Alright” McConaughey. Honestly, I would love to see his performance get him a Best Supporting Actor nomination. Not because the actual role was a stretch for him- in fact, the complete opposite. This is the role that our favorite shirtless Southern man was born to play. For the rest of his life. He can never stop- that’s an order, son. Much like many people considered Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow the ultimate synthesis of his career, this was the ultimate role for McConaughey, a combination of every romantic comedy role, Dazed and Confused and even a little bit of Lincoln Lawyer (upcoming Killer Joe? Maybe).

So when people start throwing around the rumors of a Magic Mike sequel, I get a little excited. Then when these people start the rumor that the sequel will focus more on McConaughey’s character of Dallas, I kind of loose my shit. He talked to New York Magazine’s Vulture on the sequel: "Let's get some more Dallas in there. Just stick with Dallas." Because he has more to, um, show us? As a character, we clarified. "He's a character who would love to give more of himself to you. [Wink.]"

Alright, if I wasn’t sold enough...the wink seals the deal. Please let it be titled Dallas Does Dallas.

I would even be interested in seeing a prequel to Magic Mike all about Dallas. Where he came from, his relationship with his mother and father, you know, the whole spiel. Maybe his first love, which will undoubtably be played by Blake Lively, the stripper with the wits of a classic lit grad student.
