As the future of Sonic Youth remains atop the proverbial fence following Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon's divorce announcement, second guitarist Lee Ranaldo has become something of a mouthpiece for the legendary indie rockers (currently on indefinite hiatus) while also touring behind and promoting his new fantastic new solo album Between The Times & The Tides (listen here). Relations are still understandably "tender" between the four long-time band mates, but in the meantime, Ranaldo confirms that there are plenty of new projects in the works to keep Sonic Youth fans busy until the group's hopeful return.

As discussed in a new interview with BBC Radio 5's Sam Huxley, Ranaldo revealed that the band is working on compiling and mixing unused demos from their 1987 classic Sister for a possible deluxe edition reissue while also editing a 1986 tour video and working on a handful of different concert recordings for a planned series of live album releases.

"Sometimes we'll listen back to [this stuff] and barely recognize the songs... because they've taken on a new character live," explains Ranaldo. "So we thought it would be really cool to find representative recordings from every period in our career, and make new releases that loosely correspond to different records, and let the audience see how the songs shifted or grew or expanded in a live context."
