At long last, someone had the ingenious idea to combine two of my all-time favorite things in the world: William Shakespeare's Hamlet and the music of Pearl Jam. I promise it makes more sense than you might think. If you're in New York City this week and looking for something interesting to check out, I'd adamantly suggest checking out A King Of Infinite Space, a new "rock and roll adaptation" of Hamlet that just premiered at the HERE production house last night.

As described on HERE's website, the 80-minute play begins as "Hamlet returns from college to find his uncle Claude married to his mother and plotting to turn the Elsinore, a historic Lower East Side building, into high priced modern condos in what will soon be known as the East Village. During a wild drug trip with his friend Horacio, he sees the ghost of his father, and vows revenge for his murder at the hands of Claude."
Directed by Jerry Ruiz, A King Of Infinite Space features a live band performing a slew of plot-appropriate Pearl Jam tunes. Personally, I've always imagined Ophelia as more of a Hole fan, but the Prince of Denmark would totally have listened to Vs. and Vitalogy on a near-constant loop, don't you think? "She nursed him there, over a fortnight…" etc.
Tickets are $15 and going fast, so be sure to visit the HERE box office at 145 Sixth Avenue (at Dominick Street, one block south of Spring) today!
