Watch: Trent Reznor Previews New 'Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2' Soundtrack

Trent Reznor Inc.

I'm pretty sure the last video game I successfully completed involved Mario and Yoshi and was on SNES. Needless to say, I'm probably the least aware (or excited) individual on the planet when it comes to Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2, the upcoming "event" first person shooter dropping November 13. What does excite me, though, is that Trent Reznor and The Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer are both involved, as featured in a new behind the scenes trailer that appeared online yesterday.

With Reznor's score (a slightly amped version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, to my ears) playing ominously in the background, the trailer features quick interviews with Black Ops 2 director Dave Anthony, Treyarch Studios head Mark Lamia, Goyer and, of course, Reznor himself. "I look at video games as a true art form," says Reznor, who has previously contributed original music to both Quake and Doom 3. "The chance to be involved in something like this is exciting to me. I feel it's every bit as viable as film work or music or anything else."

Can't pretend to know anything about Black Ops 2… or any other first-person shooter ever, for that matter… but it's a thrill to hear Reznor working with his old sonic palette again: menacing distorted bass, screeching guitars and heavy, borderline tribal drums. If I did have the sudden urge to run around and shoot it out with a team of highly-trained mercenaries in exotic locations, this is definitely what I'd want thumping in the background.

Gamers, how excited are you about Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Trent Reznor's involvement? Get the conversation started in our comments section below and build your own Call Of Duty Ology by clicking here.
