I always find myself getting busy, then seeing something that I get a huge itch to come back and ologize. But that's neither here nor there. Today I return to speak about this proposed team USA age limit of 23. Even though I don't like Kobe i have to agree, this is Stupid. Stupid is putting it lightly. This is only being done in an effort to save both face and money. While GM's are saying they have the players best interest in mind, it's really their Investments best interest in mind. These Gm;s could give a damn about these players. Remember most of them don't have a love for the game, and a using a business mindset. After all if you were a millionaire who owned a race horse, would you let your niece ride it around on off-season vacation for fun? It all goes back to a book I picked up but never finished, Forty-million dollar slaves. The athletes essentially look live slaves in this issue. The Gm's (master) have bought and owned the player (slave) and told them you are my property, and will not play for free even if you want to. It's different in the case of Rajon Rondo who choose on his own not to play (weird considering legacy, and sex in olympic village). Aside from the money hungry mentality, it just isn't right. The olympics are about putting your best foot forward, and COMPETING. Jamaicans don't tell their elite sprinters once you hit a certain age stop going and running for free. They understand if you have the best of the best lets go win some hardware. Before NBA players were allowed into the Olympics (1989) Team USA wasn't dominating and struggled because they were sending BOYS to battle MEN. With an age limit of 23 we would be handicapping our self unfairly. We would have a team full of,young NBA players a few if any college players (mainly freshman) and high school "phenoms" who already feel entitled. This would be our roster going against the Gasol brothers for example. Imagine the results. Ricky Rubio and spain could do it because he played pro for years. Basketball is already evolving into a sport where kids have "arrived" way to early, and development is rarely tought. One program that helps curve this is junior team USA which gives younger guys a chance to play international. The game is growing rapidly. There are more people in China who play basketball than live in America. basketball is the second most played sport outside of soccer in the world. So for us to slack off for 2-3 Olympics, would hurt us. While we slow down the world will continue to turn. Overall it's just not right to tell people when they can and can't play, and to handicap an international game that's rapidly growing.
