This past sunday I woke up early to go explore the city and to be one of the first to land the free swag from Adorama's street fair on 18th. street between 5th.-6th. avenues. When I stepped out my door I noticed a certain flavor in the air, an intense mood and excitement that usually comes at the forefront of any great celebration. As I walked to the train I saw my one of my neighbors down the block, infront of her building she had erected a medium size tent, under which were a couple of foldable chairs a a cooler and a bbq grill near the edge. As I walked past her husband came out of the building with a boombox, he sat it by the chairs under the tent and pushed play. It felt as though someone had popped a ballon in a silent room, but as soon as the music so did the party, my neighbor picked up a pair of maracas from one of the chairs and started to salsa with a big smile on her face. The mood in the air was so exciting that I began to do my version of the salsa, which I have to say is actually not too shabby; granted I am no pro however I can fake it pretty well. I walked on to the train still somewhat dancing and headed to the city.Couple of hours later, after a fun day in the city; I returned back home with the thoughts of the mornings dance lesson far gone. As I came out of the train station I was greeted by a very unusual seen. The intersection near my apt was completely blocked, as far as the eye could see there were red white and blue flags and what seemed to be a parade with lots of dancing windows blowing and joy in the air. It was truly a sight to see. This was unlike the parade that happens at central park, this was a community celebration, and before i knew it i was right in the middle of it. So I did what any photographer would do in my place. What a perfect end to my already great day!
