The Fancy Looks To Steamroll Pinterest Will New "Buy Now" Button

Lauren Caruso

Maybe I'm just, I don't know, absolutely batshit crazy, but I never got hooked on Pinterest the way middle-aged housewives and college sophomores all over America did. It just didn't make sense for me to sit there and plan my wedding when I'm not even close to engaged or my dream house when I'm not even close to in the black, but there was one thing Pinterest was missing: commercialization.

Long before Facebook inspired all sorts of YSL eyeshadow palettes and flash sales sites became the norm, sites have been looking for ways to monetize their content. Yesterday, The Fancy, which seems to be an e-commerce version of Pinterest, debuted their "Buy Now" button, which allows readers to buy products directly off of blog sites without so much as opening a new window, TechCrunch reports. But will it revolutionize the way we shop? Some say yes.

According to TechCrunch, The Fancy will work in tandem with nearly 30,000 Independent Fashion Bloggers for a hard launch. Editor Taylor Davies calls the button, “the next step in how we, as blog consumers, shop and purchase things we like and see." So next time you're wasting hours surfing your favorite blogs (fashion, beauty and tech alike), you may find yourself whipping out your credit card without hesitation.

As far as The Fancy goes, TechCrunch says the site is certainly on the rise. The site reports that the platform saw $50,000 a week in commerce, and nearly one million users "fancy" items (get it?) more than 500,000 times a day.

While I'm busy looking for ways to save, everyone else is encouraging easy, efficient spending. So it goes. Do you think The Fancy will be the next big thing in e-commerce? Think of it this way: if you could shop all the images you repin, would you?
