Is Blink-182 even the same band without Travis Barker ruthlessly pounding on the drums in all of his tattooed, backwards-cap-wearing glory? Me thinketh not, but it looks like the trio’s two other members, Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge, will be traveling to Australia in 2013 for some tour dates without their key drummer.

And the reason isn’t even something asinine like bruised egos or fame whoring, which makes it all the more unfortunate. If you’ll recall, back in 2008, both Travis Barker and Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein were seriously injured in a plane crash in South Carolina where they were the only survivors. Suffering burns on over 1/3 of his body, the experience affected Barker so traumatically that he now has a phobia of flying and doesn’t know if he can stomach a 24-hour flight to Australia. Well, yeah. Jesus. But Barker isn’t ruling out the possibility entirely. He told Red Bulletin that he wants to someday attempt the flight to show his kids that he can overcome his fear since they too are also terrified of flying.

There’s no word yet on who will replace Barker, but I can’t imagine Blink-182 having nearly the same raucous, 90s house party energy without him. Is it still The Who without Keith? Is it still The Beatles without Ringo? Are rhetorical questions still the death of good journalism?
Would you see Blink-182 without Travis Barker? Would you seem them with Travis Barker? Let us know in the comments below.
