Daniel Tosh is that guy that created a webisode series called Tosh.O on Comedy Central way before Rob Dyrdek basically did the same show on MTV. He shows video clips of people being jackasses and even recreates some of the moments by bringing said jackasses on his show. He may be hilarious to some, but recently when he did a rape joke he came off as the jackass and people immediately headed to Twitter to express how they felt. (Because, well, that's just what our society does now when a debatable situation like this happens. We'd rather do that than write a novel on our Facebook even though a lot of people still do that too.)
Anywho, here's the breakdown on why people got either infuriated or didn't care less about the incident.
1. Daniel Tosh states at the Laugh Factory how rape jokes are always funny.
2. A blogger is there with her girlfriend and gets offended.
3. She yells out, "Actually, rape jokes are never funny!"
4. She feels weird being disruptive, but saying nothing would have gone against her morals.
5. Tosh pauses and says, "Wouldn’t it be funny if that girl got raped by like, 5 guys right now? Like right now? What if a bunch of guys just raped her…"
7. Humiliated, she and her friend leave to speak to the manager.
8. The manager is apologetic, but instead of a refund the girl gets a comped pair of tickets if they ever want to return.
9. She feels threatened and terrified.
10. Tosh later links to her blog story and apologizes stating, "all the out of context misquotes aside, i'd like to sincerely apologize."
Word got around on Wednesday, but people are still commenting about it. Was it funny? Did he go overboard? Did that audience member even have a right to stand up during his set? Personally, his joke would have made me cringe and there's absolutely no need for it. But his response to the woman in the audience was even more cringe-worthy. I would have felt the same way she did. Very uncomfortable, to say the least.
Will I stop watching his show because of it though? No. (Though I don't watch it weekly or anything. Usually if there's nothing else on.) Do I look at him different now? Of course. He's a jackass.
