I still remember where I was when I heard that Mike Tyson had bitten off Evander Holyfield's ear. I hadn't watched the fight but my brother had. He called me long before I figured the fight would have been over. He told me the fight was stopped because Tyson bit Holyfield's ear off.
I really thought he was just fucking with me, the way that older brothers do. It took him a good five minutes before I started to believe him - and even then I wasn't so convinced.
But I mean, wow. That really was something that happened. Over the years, Mike Tyson has rarely talked about the incident, but it seems he must be short on cash again because he's doing all kinds of whacky interviews and appearances again. He's doing a one-man Broadway show (!) backed by Spike Lee (!!), he made a hilarious musical appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show, and gave one of his best interviews yet on PTI.
So it seems the time is right to open up about biting off Evander Holyfield's ear. In an interview with Bravo TV host Andy Cohen, Tyson was asked how the ear tasted.
"That depends. It depends on which ear that you bite," Tyson answered. "Since it was Holyfield's ear, and it didn't have none of that Holyfield hot sauce on it, it was not too tasty."
If it would have had the hot sauce, however, "that would have been a delicacy," Tyson said.
