“Duran Duran. They've done New Romantic to funk to house, done them well, and combined them in interesting ways.”

Nell commented on Ology's Battle Of The Fans: '80s Semi-Finals (Duran Duran Vs. Depeche Mode):
“Duran Duran. I'm a fan of both, and have seen both perform, but it was hearing The Chauffeur live that really showed me how much a piece of music can do emotionally even when the lyrics are somewhat abstract.”
Dennis Flemion, one-half of The Frogs is missing and assumed drowned after he dove into the water during a boating trip with his family in Wisconsin on Saturday and never resurfaced. He was 57, too young to die, and too old to be in the Frogs.
If you're of a certain age, and had access to alcohol during your teen years, you can sing at least a handful of the proto-grunge band's intentionally discordant and eccentrically offensive tunes. Here's a smattering of song titles:
"Who's Sucking On Grandpa's Balls If Grandma Ain't Home Tonight?"
"Children Run Away (The Man with the Candy)"
"Which One of You Gave My Daughter the Dope?"
"Grandma Sitting in the Corner with a Penis in Her Hand Going "No, No"
"Children Run Away (The Man with the Candy)"
"I'm Sad The Goat Just Died Today"
And so forth. The Frogs—who played what I'll call minimalist prank-folk, a brand of lo-fi novelty rock that was more gratingly original twenty years ago, before any Pro Tools-owning snot could make it—gained a boutique following in the early nineties, and were hugely influential on the likes of Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder. Via the AV Club:
The biggest Frogs concerts ever were opening for bands that admired them, including Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins. You know the "That was a good drum break" sample on Beck's "Where It's At"? That's The Frogs. Pearl Jam was known to cover "I Only Play 4 Money," and Flemion's handwriting can be seen inside the jacket to No Code; Flemion inspired some of the lyrics on "Smile."
Lord only knows what gets played at the funeral of a member of the Frogs, but if there's any tribute to the legacy of the band, it's that only their own music is weird enough to be appropriate for the occasion:
