Katie really brought her Joey Potter smarts when planning out this whole getaway. The actress not only fired all of her security guards that were close to Tom, but also fired his daughter Bella from her clothing line two months prior. Two months? She also changed her cell phone and e-mail. Unless Tom was extremely busy to notice, how could he not realize that a divorce was up ahead?
Here's a step-by-step look at what happened right after Katie signed the papers.

Strategic Premeditated Plan Set In Motion
34. Katie filed for divorce on June 28, 2012 after five years of marriage.
35. She filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, under "Anonymous v. Anonymous."
36. "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," says Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe to People. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
37. In the papers Katie makes clear that she wants sole custody of their daughter Suri, 6.
38. Katie's divorce papers state that the marriage was "irretrievably broken" six months prior.
39. It becomes clear immediately that Katie will not be backing down from her position in the situation.
40. New Jersey-based attorney Jonathan Wolfe is said to represent Katie in the case.
41. Katie clearly was going to an extreme on purpose. "She knows now that in the eyes of Scientology she is the enemy. Her father advised her to spare no expense in hiring the best security team possible. Katie has no plans of living like a recluse, she is going out in public with Suri, just as she normally would, just with a few more bodyguards now."
42. "He had no idea this was coming," a source told People. "He's totally devastated and heartbroken."
43. Tom made it known that Suri is the utmost deal-breaker in this situation. A source told TMZ, "She is the primary concern in his life."
44. Dennis Wasser, the same attorney that Tom worked with during the Nicole Kidman split, takes the case to help the actor.
45. A source told People that Katie lied to Tom about the real reason she wanted to move into a new apartment. "She said she moved there to drive into the underground garage. There are fewer paparazzi and it's less intrusive for her," says the source. "It was the first phase of getting everything out of the house, and that's why she was able to say she's moving without giving an indication that she was going to divorce him."
46. Katie's father showed up a few days before the big reveal to help her clean house.
47. Simply put, her dad always wanted the old Katie back.
48. Katie cut ties with her bodyguards the day before she filed. In what seemed like a very dramatic 24 hours, she cut the bodyguards loose because of their close ties with Tom and had another group ready for the next morning. "Katie already had her new team in place and Suri was already in the new apartment when Katie told the old team their services were no longer going to be needed. Katie was at the apartment she shared with Tom and when she stepped out into the hallway she had four new bodyguards that took her downstairs, where she got into the car and drove off to her new life."
49. Katie cut off all communication days before. She switched cell phones and e-mail addresses.
50. Katie fired her old publicist Ina Trecoikas and is moving on with Leslie Sloane in the New York office and Nanci Ryder in Los Angeles.
51. One day after, Katie stepped out in New York smiling not wearing her wedding ring.
52. Tom is photographed for the first time since hearing about the news himself. He's caught riding in a helicopter over Reykjavik, Iceland the day after.
Personal Revelations
53. All of Tom's marriages ended when the wives were 33, a very unsettling similarity between all three.
54. Tom's son Connor was also 6 when he divorced Kidman in 2001.
55. Tom Cruise's son Connor, now 17, tweets support to his dad. "#LaFamilia Always. Friends Come And Go, But Family Is Forever," he retweeted.
56. Immediately following the divorce news Tom had "absolutely no contact with Katie," according to TMZ.
57. Bert Fields, Tom's lawyers, tells BBC that Tom will file soon. The hesitation? He'll let Katie "play the media" for a little bit longer. Fields added, "Tactically we can't say where Tom will file a divorce case and if he'll be seeking joint custody of Suri."
58. Katie's parents received "hourly updates" about her whereabouts right after she filed for divorce. She even had an "electronic security" to keep track of her safety.
59. A bodyguard also contacted them every night. A source told RadarOnline, "They are being told what she is doing and where she is with Suri.
60. It was difficult for Tom at first to stay in contact with Suri, but soon he was able to speak to her at least once a day.
61. Katie went about her week as planned. She kept her scheduled appearance on Project Runway: All Stars that Monday. The show tapes at Parsons The New York School of Design in Manhattan.
62. She also went on with her daily errands as if major media outlets weren't currently publishing huge headlines about her private life. One day she and Suri headed out and stocked up on flowers, olive oil, and laundry detergent among other things.
63. Don't worry, Katie's "all right." That's at least the first words she uttered to photographers when she stepped out after filing. According to New York's Daily News, the actress said "I'm all right" and "thank you" to a reporter while pushing Suri along in a shopping cart.
64. Katie wasn't necessarily all smiles behind closed doors though. At New York's eatery Alice's Tea Cup one week after filing Katie was seen in the corner of the restaurant having an intense conversation on her cell phone. The call lasted 15 minutes and she looked "flustered and upset." A source told Us Weekly that she wiped her nose and eyes before heading back to the table.
65. Plus, some media outlets pointed out how thin Katie was getting.
66. A Capeside reunion was axed because of Tom. Us Weekly reported that Katie was all in to catch up with her co-stars, but Tom forbid it. "We don’t hang out like we use to," James Van Der Beek told Celebuzz. "I have run into Josh [Jackson] and Michelle [Williams] over the years at different events, but we’re all grown up and have our own lives and families now," he said. No mention of Katie. Coincidence?
67. A source told People, "She was talking to Tom on the phone up until last week saying, 'I love you.'"
68. Tom may have been blindsided, but it is possible he knew there was trouble in the relationship. Days before his birthday "he begged her to come to Iceland for one last try at reconciliation."
69. Tom "was confident he could talk her out of it and keep her with him," a source told Us Weekly.
70. Instead, Tom headed home at 2 a.m. on his birthday. The day was described to People as very "somber...Just very very sad."
71. Katie and Suri spent Tom's birthday very differently. Us Weekly showed pictures of the two enjoying a night of ice cream. The appearance was the second since the filing and she couldn't seem happier.
72. A source told the Hollywood Reporter that Katie fired, yes fired, Tom's daughter Bella from hew clothing line Holmes and Yang two months before. "There was never any trouble between them," the source said. In fact, Bella called Katie her mom. "This was a carefully planned ambush. Katie didn’t want Bella working for her anymore because she was Tom’s kid."
73. Pictures surfaced days later that showed the last two times Katie and Tom were together before the filing. On June 16, Katie and Suri visited Tom in Iceland and ate out at Sushi Samba and another picture showed the two holding hands.
