Look, guys, you can't put out a trilogy of new albums and not make at least two feature-length documentaries to go along with them. Everyone knows that, it's been a rule forever. It's why this fall, in addition to digging into Green Day's ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre! (out September 25, November 13 and January 15, respectively), fans will get an up close and personal look at Billie Joe, Mike and Tre courtesy of two new documentary films.
Billboard reports that the first, to be produced and directed by filmmakers Tim Lynch (Green Day's Bullet In A Bible) and Tim Wheeler (The White Stripes' Under Great White Northern Lights), will document the writing and recording process behind the band's three new albums and follow them on the road for a few Asian festival dates later this year. "It's not going to be the sitting down, head shot of me going, 'We started out blah blah blah'," promises Billie Joe Armstrong. "We wanted to get into lifestyles of rock 'n' roll and playing rock n roll and letting the story kind of tell itself rather than create revisionist (history)."
If that's not your bag, Billboard also reports that the second new documentary (details TBA) will compile vintage interview and concert footage from the pre-Dookie days. See? A little something for everybody. While you're busy getting excited, take another look at the new album teaser trailers. ("Oh Love," the debut single from ¡Uno!, drops July 16.)
