Insert obligatory statement regarding my excitement for The Dark Knight Rises.
As we inch closer and closer to the release of the world's most epic movie, we find ourselves wondering, "What's next?" Once the film is released, what do we do? What do we have to look forward to? If you say Total Recall get the f*ck out. Particularly for those Chris Nolan fans, the finale of his opus is bittersweet. Some of us would be OK if he just did this thing forever.
BUT HE MIGHT BE.
Just kidding. He's not. Or is he? That's the whole rumor that's swirling around the internet these days. Now, we've all seen the constant articles saying that he will not be involved with the upcoming Justice League movie. Plus, this whole thing really started out as a trilogy and Nolan's the kind of director that will stick to his vision rather than sell out. Here's what my hero had to say about the conclusion the franchise and the future of the Dark Knight:
"We're finished with all we're doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character...Batman will outlive us all, and our interpretation was ours. Obviously, we consider it definitive and kind of finished. The great thing about Batman is he lives on for future generations to reinterpret, and obviously, Warners will have to decide in the future what they're going to do with him."
But wait, don't get to depressed yet because there are some very interesting things that you need to keep in mind:
1. Chris Nolan is producing the upcoming Superman reboot (Man of Steel). Directing is Zack Snyder, who seems to be rather hit or miss with audiences, but Nolan has a special way of making everything awesome.
2. Most importantly, check out his IMDb page. Now, IMDb isn't always the most reliable source for facts but they usually are pretty legit with their news, especially when it comes to big names. According to his IMDb, Nolan is writing something called the Untitled Batman Reboot.
The Untitled Batman Reboot that may or may not be directed by Darren Aronofsky.
I'll give you a moment to let all of this sink in.
A long time ago, even before Nolan really got his hands on the Batman franchise, Darren Aronofsky was rumored to be part of a DC Comic movie. Now perhaps this "Untitled Reboot" is the actual Justice League and Nolan is purely penning the script, stepping out to let someone else provide a different visceral opinion on the characters. For this, we'll have to see how Man Of Steel is presented.
Of course, this also makes us wonder if Nolan's aforementioned statement is just an all out lie. He’s super secretive when it comes to his projects - like JJ Abrams secretive. For example, only about five people in the world have actually read The Dark Knight Rises script in full and actors weren't even allowed to take their copies home.

There really isn’t any way of confirming Nolan’s future involvement of anything in the DC universe. Most likely DC and Warner Brothers want to let the publicity for the final film really sink in for the next week before they relieve the fans of any future projects. In the meantime, however, Nolan will be producing his faithful Director of Photography Wally Pfister’s directorial debut. He’s also writing a new Gemma Arterton film called The Keys to the Street, but he’s no longer developing a Howard Hughes biopic.
(Fun Fact about the Hughes thing- Nolan put this project on hiatus after The Aviator came out. The project he chose instead was Batman Begins.)
He also hasn’t ruled out directing a James Bond film, which would MAKE ME LOSE MY MIND.

So that’s all you need to know about Nolan, the Dark Knight and the current rumors of the Justice League. Go forth and spread the word, you beautiful cinephiles.
