Well, at least she’s making sure one aspect of her life isn’t too messy.
Rihanna filed a lawsuit against her former accounts yesterday, claiming they cost her tens of millions of dollars and should’ve informed her to cut back on her 2009 tour when ticket sales weren’t up to par.
The suit, filed in Manhattan federal court, also claims that the firm of Berdon LLP, mismanaged bookkeeping. Rihanna, who filed under her birth name, Robyn Fenty is requesting an unspecified amount of damages from Berdon and two of it’s accountants.
More info after the jump.
EW gives a bit more details on what the suit is about:
By the “Last Girl on Earth” tour in 2009, Rihanna learned that the tour had managed “significant net losses” despite robust revenues, though the defendants had managed to pocket 22 percent of the tour’s total revenues while paying Rihanna just 6 percent of revenues, the lawsuit said. It said Berdon’s unusual accounting practice of paying itself a percentage of gross tour income as commissions left it no incentive to “counsel” Rihanna to reduce expenses or put in place appropriate financial controls.
The lawsuit alleged that the practice of paying itself commissions on revenues was not standard in the accounting and business management industry and created a clear conflict of interest.
Ri-ri’s lawyers also are claiming that because of the accountant’s actions, she had to “spend significant resources” to clear up massive errors on her tax returns during those years.
After firing them in September 2010, Rihanna has seen a positive reversal of fortune. She originally hired them in 2005 after initially signing with DefJam Records.
Maybe Lauryn Hill can take some notes from her.
