Chances are, you don a bikini every so often and still know nothing about its history. Well, guess what, the modern bikini is older than you (it turns 66 today!) and if that's not a reason to strip down and hang poolside, I don't know what is.
Almost every girl on this planet has a love-hate relationship with bikinis. While these teeny tiny head-turners make us look flirty, hot and um, desirable (let's be real here, you don't put them on for no reason), they are also hands down the hardest sartorial piece to pull off. Unfortunately, the ideal beach bod doesn't happen over night and covering up yourself with three pieces of cloth and some strings just doesn't sound like the smartest idea ever. Any objections here?
But just incase you've spent enough time in the gym this summer and are ready to hit the beach in over 100-degree weather, we've compiled a roundup of the best swimsuits ranging from strings, bandeaus, high-waisted to everything in between that you can get your hands on right now!
A little history lesson of the famous bikini
-It was invented by French engineer Louis Réard in 1946.
-Réard named the bikini after the site of an atomic bomb test, Bikini Atoll in the Pacific, hoping the excitement caused by the launch would be as explosive as an atomic bomb.
-Micheline Bernardini, a nude dancer, was the first woman to support Réard's design.
-Bikini was banned all across Europe and was declared sinful by the Vatican.
-French actress Bridget Bardot was credited as the one who popularized the bikini.
