It seems that three is a magic number for both sets of Spiderman franchises. From 2002 to 2007 the world was captivated by Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, your friendly neighborhood Spiderman who was constantly fighting for truth, justice, and the love of Mary Jane Watson (except when Peter Parker started to wear mascara and gyrate around the screen. That was just ridiculous.)
With The Amazing Spider-Man, this decade’s answer to the Spiderman films earning over $50 million (that’s the second-highest Fourth of July gross ever), it’s apparent that audiences across the US are loving The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield as the titular character. In fact, producers Avi Arand and Matt Tolmach were so sure that audiences would love their film that they have decided to make two more. From the official Facebook page:
"It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie TRILOGY that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents."
The spidey sequel is set to hit theateres sometime in 2014. Word to the wise: no gyrating. Even if it is Andrew Garfield.
