With a boss like Ryan Murphy, it’s no surprise that being adaptable is important if you’re working on Glee. When the actors constantly say they don’t know what the plans are for season four, I don’t think they’re being coy. I’m pretty sure they really have no idea what the hell is going on. This week, we got to see what it’s really like behind the scenes: you don’t know what song you’re singing, your lines are changed, and you don’t learn choreography until the last minute.
Homework Assignment: “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette
Everyone was randomly assigned lines to sing instead of picking their own, but right before their performance guest mentor Kevin McHale informed them that they would each be singing the whole song by themselves. I would be terrified. That is a tough song! I thought everyone handled the twist pretty well, and at least we were spared the awkward group choreography this week. Aylin was announced the winner.
Music Video: “Price Tag” by Jessie J
The contestants were left in the dark about what the song would be until they got to the recording studio. This song annoys me to no end, but let’s leave that out of it. We were once again subjected to another stupid music video concept. Rich kids vs. poor kids! Oh look, being poor is more fun! LIES. Charlie decided to create his own character, which he named Scott Campbell. I thought his commitment to staying in character was hilarious, but of course, the judges just saw it as Charlie making things difficult. The judges then decided to have a bottom six instead of a bottom three because hey, why not?

Last Chance Performances (DUETS EDITION!):
Nellie & Blake – “Waiting For A Girl Like You” by Foreigner
Are we back in vulnerability week? Because there was a return of sad pouty faces. But it was tender and sweet.
Ali & Abraham – “Last Friday Night” by Katy Perry
This performance was kind of a mess, but that was more due to the fact that this song should never be performed as a duet NEVER EVER EVER. Seriously.
Mario & Charlie – “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” by Elton John
I was worried that these two strong personalities might clash and result in disaster, but their voices ended up complementing each other nicely.
Not Called Back: Mario
Mario has a cockiness that’s always rubbed me the wrong way, but he’s still very talented and I’m not really sure why he was cut. His closing words were inspiring: “Blindness is the last thing on my list.”
SumOlogy: Glee sounds like a terrible work environment, but it made for a good reality show episode.
Grade: B+
Additional Thoughts:
Maybe he had this before and I just didn’t notice, but Ryan was holding this little black notebook throughout the last chance performances. I like to think he’s jotting down ideas for the brilliant Glee/American Horror Story crossover he’s planning for November sweeps. Thoughts?
